UNITY IN THE COMMUNITY GARBAGE CLEAN UP NOV 7th OSHAWA NOVEMBER 7th - 2009 SHOW SUPPORT FOR YOUR COMMUNITY First off .... Who is Unity in the Community... ? Unity in the Community is... An energized collective of area residents making surrounding communities more vibrant and livable. Our main objective is to reach out to our communities, our residents and our local businesses to better their own communities through participation. What was all the fuss about on November 7th.... ? Members of Unity in the Community, with the support of city officials, Secondary student volunteers, High School Volunteers, concerned parents and various local business owners are joining forces to tackle various locations throughout Oshawa to clean up waste and unwanted debris. So where and when does this all start... ? Started off at City Hall Oshawa (West side at the bridge to Midtown mall) 11am and making our way down to the Oshawa trail area (Midtown Mall) 1 team will head Northbound on the beautiful Oshawa Trail system, the 2nd team heading Southbound. What sort of waste and debris is being removed ? Shopping Carts or anything unwanted in or around the creek Basic litter Anything which could be dangerous or hazardous to the environment What is the point...? To reach out to EVERYONE who would like to lend a hand and contribute to THEIR community! To become active in helping ANY neighborhood in need of attention. Discussing concerns in a group to solve those concerns sooner than later. Coming together as a community unit to make lasting changes! Cabbie Back At Home After spending more than two weeks in the hospital Shahid Awan is back at home. The Beck taxi driver was involved in a car crash on February 17th. He was waiting to pick up guests from a wedding when an out of control car hit him around 2:15 a.m. News Advertiser reporter, Kristen Calis files this report.

Record Breaking Weather Get used to the mild temperatures. They are here to stay. At least until the end of the week. We hit 13 degrees Monday. More than doubling that last record for January 7th. But the warmer weather may bring trouble for the streams and rivers in Durham region. Stefanie Swinson files this report.

Super dogs audition for Superdogs show Some of Durhams super dogs were trying to show the judges they have what it takes to be in a Superdogs show. Some of the talented pooches will be on display at the Superdogs show at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa today, December 27th.

Honouring fallen soldiers Jennifer O'Meara/Northumberland News Local residents, police and firefighters lined Port Hope's Cavan Street Hwy. 401 overpass, on Aug. 22, to greet the motorcade bringing the body of the 67th soldier killed in Afghanistan home. Pte. Simon Longtin, a 23-year-old Quebecer, was killed Sunday when his light-armoured vehicle struck a roadside bomb.
