Last week , two Tylers (Tyler Shody of the North Oshawa Atom Hockey Team of the NASC (Parks) League and Tyler Ashby of the Albert Street Novice Hockey Team of The Oshawa Church Hockey League) were the highest contributors to the 2007 Rotary Skate-a-thon. And for their efforts, they came down to The General Motors Centre to a Generals practice, where they met Oshawa Generals superstar (and potentially the NHL's first round draft choice in June 2009) John Tavares, and Oshawa Generals General Manager and Coach Chris DiPiero. They both received their autographed John Tavares sweaters and also had a chat with John Tavares, and Coach DiPiero. They were also given Generals tickets to a Generals Game for them and their families from Oshawa Generals Game Day & Special Events Manager Chris White, who helped set up this very special presentation.
After the photo shoot, John Tavares gave them both autographed John Tavares Hockey Sticks and a tour of the Generals Dressing Room. This was a dream come true for these young hockey players who skated in the 2007 Rotary Skate-a-thon and collected the highest amount of money. The profits are split evenly with their hockey teams and with The Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood who look after many charities, here in the Oshawa area. This year, the 29th Annual Rotary Skate-a-thon will be held on November 30 at The General Motors Centre in downtown Oshawa.
In the photo L to R are: Tyler Shody, Coach Chris DiPiero, John Tavares, Tyler Ashby, and Rotary Club of Oshawa-Parkwood President Dave Meader.

Thursday, June 5, approximately 4pm:
As members of the Futures Internship Program at Oshawa Community Church (occonline.ca) set up a table with free coffee and snacks to give to passersby, a fire suddenly broke out across the street from 71 Simcoe St. S., and a bigger crowd than expected was gathered. Five fire engines, an ambulance, and four police cars were on the scene, as Simcoe St. S. was blocked off completely from John St. to Athol St. The interns showed grace under pressure and ran back inside the church to put more coffee on, serving nearly everyone in the crowd.
