The on-ramp and off-ramp of the westbound 401 at Bennett Road in Clarington were closed Thursday morning because of a tractor trailer rollover and fire.

Enzo and Ann Enzi of Elgin Street North in Colborne started their day on Wednesday with what sounded like an explosion (or thunder to their neighbours) when a huge piece of their roof came off during the high winds. Mrs. Enzi said she had been up earlier, at 4:30 a.m., when the night was calm and the temperature above freezing. The huge piece of roof came off the back (the west side) and crashed into the middle of the roof, creating a big hole. Luckily, another piece of roof fell over the hole, covering it until a contractor arrived. Unluckily, said Mrs. Enzi, the wind also took a post which held one of their bird feeders, and the downey woodpecker who regularly fed there was quite distraught.

Hwy. 401 was closed east of the Burnham Street exit at Cobourg on Tuesday, Jan. 22, following a number of accidents that occurred in winter snow and ice conditions. One pile-up of over 25 vehicles, including tractor-trailers, was about three kilometers east of Cobourg.

A tractor trailer rolled over on the Brock Road on-ramp to the Westbound 401 Thursday.
This accident closed the ramp to traffic.
