Transport truck driver Hardeep Singh Padda escaped uninjured when his rig crashed into a car backing up on Hwy. 401 in Whitby Sunday night. The driver of the car was killed and his passenger suffered life-threatening injuries. Stefanie Swinson files this report.

Putting the pedal to the metal may get you from point A to point B in a hurry, but when it comes to transport trucks, that extra speed could well be deadly.
17% of all fatal crashes on the 401 involve big rigs.
The Province hopes to reduce these accidents by putting limiters on trucks that would prevent them from going over 105 km/h.

Staff and patients at Lakeridge Health Whitby were evacuated after an electrical fire Monday night. No injuries were reported. Patients were transported to other Lakeridge Health sites in Durham.
